This year, in addition to making blog posts about the stuff I consumed, I’m adding this one, my favourite photos I took this year.

Two things happened in 2024 that dominated my photo collection. We adopted 2 kittens, and we went to Japan. These are the things cameras are made for.

My 2024 Photo Library

I’m still using Lightroom to organize my library. I kept 1641 photos. In 2023, I kept 604. That’s a big difference. There’s 905 photos in my “Japan” folder, so if you discount that, I actually kept fewer photos overall.

Here’s a further breakdown from Lightroom:

Camera Count
Canon EOS M50m2 635
iPad mini 4
iPhone 15 Pro Max 966

And here’s a lens breakdown, which mostly communicates the crazy level of complexity the iPhone camera has added over the years:

Lens Count
30mm F1.4 DC DN 414
Canon EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM 2
EF50mm f/1.8 STM 19
EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM 7
EF-M22mm f/2 STM 191
iPad mini back camera 3mm f/1.8 1
iPad mini front camera 1.65mm f/2.4 1
iPhone 15 Pro Max back camera 2.22mm f/2.2 3
iPhone 15 Pro Max back camera 6.86mm f/1.78 3
iPhone 15 Pro Max back camera 6.76mm f/1.9 14
iPhone 15 Pro Max back camera 15.66mm f/2.8 1
iPhone 15 Pro Max back dual wide camera 5.1mm f/1.8 2
iPhone 15 Pro Max back triple camera 2.22mm f/2.2 132
iPhone 15 Pro Max back triple camera 6.86mm f/1.78 67
iPhone 15 Pro Max back triple camera 6.76mm f/1.9 559
iPhone 15 Pro Max back triple camera 15.66mm f/2.8 53
iPhone 15 Pro Max front TrueDepth camera 2.69mm f/1.9 32
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM or Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM 2
Unknown Lens 134

The “unknown lens” row is a mixture of videos and photos from both iPhone and my camera. Metadata remains hard to nail all the time.

And of course, most of these are photos of the cats. With that in mind, I’m breaking this down into three categories: general photos, photos of Asuka and Rei, and photos from Japan.

My Favourite Photos of Asuka and Rei

My Favourite Photos of 2024

Framing your own selfie is difficult but I’m proud of how this one came out
We spend a lot of time on our balcony, and look forward to giving it a nice new feel in 2025
