Emotionally great ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ TV shows
- DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION (2024) – This was everything I want from science fiction.
- Severance (Season 2, 2025) – This was kind of also everything I want from science fiction.
- What We Do in the Shadows (Season 6, 2024) – Maybe the best Toronto sitcom ever made.
- Interior Chinatown (2024) – The book is one of my favourites, and the show might actually hit harder.
- Kowloon Generic Romance (2025) – Romance of the year. Took my breath away.
- Dan Da Dan (Season 1, part 2, 2025) – I am rooting for these characters more than anyone else in fiction.
- Call of the Night (Season 2, 2025) – Three years in between seasons is too long for the coolest couple on TV.
Technically great ⭐⭐⭐⭐ TV shows
- The White Lotus (Season 3, 2024) – A few steps below season 2, but still well-made stuff.
- Rurouni Kenshin (Season 1, 2023–25) – Technically excellent shōnen.
- The Apothecary Diaries (Season 1) – Well-crafted weekly mysteries. The show dips a little when saddled with longer arcs.
- Dept. Q (Season 1, 2025) – Another tight whodunnit.
- It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Season 17, 2025) – I guess I’m just following these psychos to the end of time.
- Futurama (Season 10, 2025) – a surprisingly good season of Futurama!
- The Paper (Season 1, 2025) – At least three episodes of the Paper (Scam Alert, especially) were the funniest things I saw this year.
- Slow Horses (Season 5, 2025) – Season 5? When did that happen?
Acceptable ⭐⭐⭐ TV shows
- The Sticky (Season 1, 2024) – I do appreciate an engaging heist.
- KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! (Season 3, 2024) – Are they in love? Worse, they’re stupid.
- SAKAMOTO DAYS (Seasons 1–2) – They forget the premise of the show halfway through in favour of an endless parade of increasingly fun fight scenes.
- 365 Days to the Wedding (2024) – totally cute romcom starring innocent doinkies.
- A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof (2025) – totally cute romcom starring murderous doinkies.
- Rick and Morty (Season 8, 2025) – like clockwork with this show.
- Towards Zero (2025) – I’m never sure why a 3-episode show isn’t just a movie.
- My Dress-Up Darling (Season 1, part 2, 2025) – totally cute, chill, hangout show with no stakes whatsoever.
- Kaiju No. 8 (Season 1, part 2, 2025) – Crunchy fights.
- Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Season 3, 2025) – If you’re wondering how they eat and breathe, and other science facts, repeat to yourself, it’s just a show, I should really just relax.
- May I Ask for One Final Thing? (Season 1, 2025) – I’m breaking real ground here, but sometimes it’s fun to watch heroes punch villains.
- Hysteria! (2023) – Hell Yeah, B-movie-as-show.
- Star Trek: Voyager (seven seasons, 1999 –2001) – After finding SNW a little light on characters just hanging out, I thought I’d go back and watch the real hangout Star Trek. It’s mostly better than I remember, but nobody ever wants to hear about it.
Notes 📝
I didn’t change how I tracked TV shows in 2025, so that’s a small victory for settling for the best thing I’ve found out there, Trakt.tv. One thing I changed this year was breaking up the year into seasons, so I have lists for Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall for 2025. Making a plan for a season made for a better watchlist than the actual watchlist feature. For an absolutely unbelievable fact, I watch more TV in the fall than in the summer (but the summer shows were more fun).
