Raygun: The Bible of Music and Style by Marvin Scott Jarrett is a coffee table book about Raygun Magazine. It is the only place to see some of the layouts from Raygun, as there doesn’t seem to be an online repository of copies. (If you can point me to one I would greatly appreciate it. Leave a comment).
As for the coffee table book, it’s a collection of layouts, shown big glossy love by its author, so that more people can look at these layouts. Designers like Gary Koepke, Robert Hales, David Carson, Chris Ashworth, and I’m sure many others stretched and broke text to create jarring and cool spreads. This is form beating function to death, and it’s beautiful.
The book takes about an hour to flip through, but I’ll probably be thinking about it forever.
