Thanks to Ethel on the Danforth, I have an issue of Sports Illustrated from December 1954, the first year of its existence. This cover photograph by the legendary Toni Frissel is just amazing.
The magazine jumps around with colour and black and white photography, always highlighting form and human action. “Pat on the Back” needs a comeback, too. Maybe Defector can pick that up.
I expected sports coverage of the time period. Here’s what I didn’t expect: actual illustrations. My favourite is the map of Parsenn, a striking blue and white that almost looks like it was done with pencil crayons. It’s giving a little bit Frieren season 2.
