Layouts I Love 8 • EGM, May 1993

This was the first video game magazine I ever bought. At ten years old and obsessed with gaming, I was the target demographic. I read every single one of these 183 pages until they fell apart.

This is a pure nostalgia play. Crisp designs and readable white space? Not here. 90s game magazines were built on a different philosophy: if there’s a blank spot, blast it with overprinting.

The result is a total sensory overload—all sugar and money. The lines between editorial, advertising, and strategy guides are completely blurred. Honestly, it isn’t even obvious if all the games featured were real. It’s chaotic, loud, and I love it.
