Anime Herald is, according to them, the first new anime magazine to launch since 2007. I covered their first issue in print, I’m reading this one digitally. A big launch issue? Obviously a big deal. Issue 2? Now it’s a magazine.
I like the details of dirt and grain in the backgrounds of the VHS OVA article. The label headlines are a nice touch.
I love that there are pieces laid out here in magazine format that began life as pieces on the web. I think I can confidently speak for writers here that we always want to see our good work last as long as possible. Well-made print is still the best way to make that happen.
Despite the aesthetic flourishes and character imbued into each article, I also appreciate long, uninterrupted passages of text in comfortable-width columns for easy reading. That’s the point of it at the end of the day, right? To read the thing.
