Layouts I Love 52 • Brutus Mapzine

Brutus Mapzine is a subscription website that shows every recommendation from Brutus Magazine on a giant map. It’s a brilliant idea, and extremely helpful when planning a trip to Japan.

I wish more magazines would lean into maps. Charge for it, as Brutus has done here. This business model would have totally saved NOW Magazine! (citation needed)

The site works like this: find the issue you enjoyed, and then scroll down to see the places listed. There is snappy editorial for both the issue and each entrant. The contents can be filtered by type, and you can “heart” any entrant to get saved to your own list.

Reading each entrant is its own treat. You really get the sense they aren’t out to list every single place, just the ones they love. That’s the difference between this and any old maps app.
