Layouts I Love • Wallpaper, Oct 2026

The massive October issue of Wallpaper* is anchored by its impeccable typography. Stark black, oversized serif typography is standard with Wallpaper. Color-coding the features (Yellow for Es Devlin, red for Palace Skateboards, and blue for Carrie Mae Weems) creates a smart navigation system. You should always know where you are.

The cover is great. It showcases ES Devlin with an overhead cover shot of the artist lying on a studio floor surrounded by the physical detritus of her 30-year cross-disciplinary practice, while the vibrant yellow Wallpaper asterisk and logo sit cleanly at the top, framing her creative chaos.

Inside the issue, the design shifts to let her big installations breathe. The “Library of Light” in Milan and her “Blue Sky White” in London are presented using huge spreads. The magazine tells you to take your time here.

The Palace Skateboards takeover demonstrates how to blend gritty authenticity with high-end editorial framing. The profile uses out of focus backgrounds to highlight the text columns. It feels distinctly like a streetwear lookbook transposed into a luxury magazine.

The design of this issue is encapsulated by legendary street photographer Shoichi Aoki, as he answers a question posed by Wallpaper*: “I think it’s important to fill your mind with good visual culture. I believe that’s one way to make the world a better place.”
